Happy 50th Birthday NASA
EarthRise, 1968 The Last Whole Earth Catalog described this image as: “The famous Apollo 8 picture of Earthrise over the moon that established our planetary facthood and beauty and rareness (dry moon, barren space) and began to bend human consciousness.”
NASA has always been a topic of conversation at Whitt reunions. Papa helped to make the shields that the shuttles would launch off of. And my dad and two of his siblings got their first jobs there. I have always admired their engineering minds.

A Natural Bridge
'Twixt business and pleasure my dad was driving through Alabama last week. He called excited to inform me that he had found the natural bridge that he had heard about as a wee tot. Spanning over 127', its the longest natural bridge east of the Rockies.
His second stop on the way home was my grandparent farm in Huntsville. While helping Papa trim some cedar trees he notice that the cows were using them as a scratching post. Then he suggested that much like humans the cows were using the cedar scent to ward off insects. Clever cows.

Weekend: Helen, Georgia
This past weekend I met my Dad's family in Helen. Just like the years of my younger youth, we stayed in a 10 bedroom cabin-complete with chapel- nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The cabin is on the Sautee Ranch, as in cattle ranch, and was originally built for a Cherokee/ Chatholic couple who managed to produce 14 children. As we were winding our way through the mountains towards our destination Friday night, our headlights found a sheep(a sheep!) running down the side of the road. This was most surreal for me! But on with the photos. I hope you enjoy.

Circle Line
Dad came in town last weekend and we took the 3 hr. Circle Line boat ride around Manhattan. Lots of amazing bridges and very educational! I highly recommend it. We started at around 49th start on the west side and moved down toward the statue of liberty, around the tip, up...and so on until we had circled the island.
Here are some photos.
