NASA has always been a topic of conversation at Whitt reunions. Papa helped to make the shields that the shuttles would launch off of. And my dad and two of his siblings got their first jobs there. I have always admired their engineering minds.

Sat: S took me to see my first performance at the Kitchen. It was called Anger Nation. I enjoyed the textures of video and sound.
Sun: Workshop at 3B. Its rare that I can spool a full and neat bobbin on the first try.

Complementing this show, an exhibition called Between the Still and Moving Image
Larry Gottheim’s Fog Line (1970), in which trees and a landscape gradually emerge on the screen as a thick fog begins to lift.
"(the exhibition) examines the relationship between the still and moving image from the 1930s to the present, by artists, filmmakers, and photographers who use stillness, cinematographic composition, and movement to question the conventions of both photography and cinema."

Last weekend I said good bye to my last delightful house guest for a while and to the crazy days of summer.
And finally, after years of threats, I went to documentary filmmaker group event that happens every Sunday at a place down the street called Union Docs.
They are a sweet and interesting bunch.
So heads up to any doc makers wanting to show your work or those who are interested.

'Twixt business and pleasure my dad was driving through Alabama last week. He called excited to inform me that he had found the natural bridge that he had heard about as a wee tot. Spanning over 127', its the longest natural bridge east of the Rockies.
His second stop on the way home was my grandparent farm in Huntsville. While helping Papa trim some cedar trees he notice that the cows were using them as a scratching post. Then he suggested that much like humans the cows were using the cedar scent to ward off insects. Clever cows.
Jean Arp later told the story of how, when he was notified to report to the German embassy, he avoided being drafted into the army: he took the paperwork he had been given and, in the first blank, wrote the date. He then wrote the date in every other space as well, then drew a line beneath them and carefully added them up. He then took off all his clothes and went to hand in his paperwork. Watched the Twin Peaks series again this past week.
Of course I skipped over episodes 12-16 as they seem slow and less interesting. While special agent Cooper is a total dream boat up until the end, Audrey Horne, seen dancing above is my favorite character. The intro credit are great too!

Ever tour a NASA facility in grade school? The second I heard the words "astronaut ice cream" my mouth started watering. And finally, when the freakin' tour was over, every kid got to try some. Two puked and I was only mildly amused.

First of all, I recently read a great account, written by one Gideon Lewis-Kaus, about an interactive play made by way of reservations and written real-time by the viewer (in this instance, Gid) and and an Indian woman over the phone . I'd love to hear what you think.
Secondly, I saw Yin Xiuzhen's work the Alexander Ochs gallery in Berlin. This particular piece was there. From the elongated truck, Chinese ballads were playing through weak speakers.
Finally, HFHA recently posted these lovely bruises but I also love this Human Manifesto. Everyone saw this, right?
